When Do Babies Laugh?
My baby seems to smile a lot, but isn’t laughing; can you tell me when do babies laugh?
Every loving parent wants to see their baby happy and laughing is a surefire way to tell exactly what kind of mood they are in! This is another one of those milestones that just about every parent looks forward to with their infant. There is nothing quite like the joy that comes from a home filled with the laughter of a baby.
When Will My Baby Laugh?
Your baby will start to smile around 2 to 3 months, then follow this up with laughter around 4 to 5 months of age. The sound of his own laughter may be surprising for your baby at first, but if he sees you laughing along with him, this kind of positive reinforcement can be very reassuring for him when developing this new milestone.
How Do I Make My Baby Laugh?
Remember that babies love to mimic what they see, and when you smile and laugh, this will usually elicit a number of giggles and smiles from your infant.
All babies respond in their own way to things that may amuse them, but most will giggle when you do silly things. This can include making funny faces or sounds, and even ticking your baby or giving him belly kisses.
Making a baby laugh isn’t very difficult to do, it is only your willingness to be carefree and silly that will limit how much he giggles at your antics.
Development Of Laughter
As your baby ages and learns more about his environment, simple games such as Peekaboo will amuse him to no end. Babies also love repetition and one very simple game you can play is making funny faces when he drops an object. He will continue to drop the object over and over to gauge your reaction and will be amused each time you act “shocked” or giggle yourself.
Be sure to only laugh when it is appropriate, as your baby doesn’t fully understand behavior that is right or wrong quite yet. By laughing at behavior you want to curb, it is only going to be positive reinforcement that the act should be repeated.
