It has never been easy to be a parent, especially for those parents who are having a child for the very first time. There is so much that you need to learn in the beginning, that it is very overwhelming for many people. You can only learn so much from reading baby books and seeking out advice from other parents. In most cases you will learn everything you need to know when the time comes, mostly through trial and error! The problem is that no matter how much you read and learn, you will still end up overlooking something important about raising your baby, especially how to keep him or her safe. I was in this same position as many new parents as well, when my daughter was first born. I thought I had myself fully prepared, but in the end I still had a great deal to learn after her birth.

Whenever you are expecting, you will hear about countless things you must do to keep your baby safe, including the foods that babies should not eat and a plethora of products designed to protect them. However, I learned through experience that there are two vital things you must do to keep your baby safe; always register any products that you buy for your baby and have your car seat checked by a safety technician.

Every year there are countless baby items that are recalled for various reasons. Sometimes it can be something as simple as a general flaw in the product that makes it non-functional. However, in other case there is a design problem with the product that can pose a serious risk to your baby and may even be deadly. Whenever you register a product, you will be notified by mail or e-mail whenever there is a recall on this item. This is easily one of the best ways to keep tabs on the safety of the products you are buying, and whether or not there has been a recall.

While registering products is a great way to keep your baby safe, the most important thing you can do for your child is to have your car seat inspected by a safety technician. Close to 80% of all car seats in the United States are incorrectly installed, putting an overwhelming amount of children at great risk. Many parents simply do not know the proper way to install these car seats, which can be a deadly mistake for their child. This is why you will want to have a certified technician ensure that your car seat is installed correctly. You can find these technicians by doing a search online, to see where these inspection stations are located in your city.

Remember, following the advice above will take up very little of your time, but it can go a long way towards helping to make sure that your child is not put in harm’s way.
