Can you please tell me if spotting during ovulation is normal, or is this something I should be worried about?

Many women can experience light spotting right before they are about to ovulate, which can be quite upsetting to those who are unaware that it is completely normal for this to happen. However, keep in mind that this bleeding is not the same as you will experience whenever you are having your period.

Bleeding During Ovulation

The estrogen levels in a woman’s body generally remain consistent whenever she is having her period, but whenever the egg leaves the ovaries, the estrogen levels of a woman will quickly rise. Spotting may occur just before a woman starts to ovulate, as this is when her estrogen levels will start to dip. After ovulation has occurred, the estrogen levels will rise once again; however, if the egg has not been fertilized, the estrogen levels will once again dip, causing a woman to have her period.

Some women may experience spotting whenever the estrogen levels drop for the first time just before ovulation, while others may not. This again is perfectly normal and is a healthy and normal part of many women’s menstrual cycles.

For women who do spot in the middle of their cycle, it may be much easier for them to predict when ever they are about to ovulate. It of course is wise to use other ovulation prediction methods to help determine if this midcycle spotting is a sign of your ovulation or not.

In some instances this spotting may be caused by such things as a hormonal imbalance, birth control pills, uterine polyps, a vaginal infection, a thyroid condition, or in rare cases cancer.

If you are concerned about the amount of bleeding in the middle of your menstrual cycle, you should not hesitate to contact your doctor for further evaluation, to see if there is an underlying problem.
