Mucus Plug Before Labor
The mucus plug before labor is basically a seal for your cervix. It helps to prevent any form of bacteria from infecting the cervix, and is basically helping to protect your baby from harm.
Bloody Show During Pregnancy
As your due date gets closer, your cervix will start to thin out and dilate, causing the mucous plug to come out.
Once the mucous plug is passed, this means that your body is preparing itself to give birth. However, this does not necessarily mean that labor is imminent. It could be anywhere from hours to a few weeks away.
The mucous plug has a variety of appearances and it can range anywhere from looking bloody, to pink or even clear.
If you notice this mucous discharge earlier than 36 weeks or there is a significant amount of bright red in your discharge, you should call your doctor immediately.
