Lactose Free Formula
For some odd reason, there are more and more babies being born with an aversion to lactose-based products. That poses a problem and concern for mothers who choose to feed formula to their babies even while breastfeeding. These mothers go on the hunt for a lactose free formula that is not only digestible by their baby, but is also nutritious.
Many mothers have found that their babies are allergic to lactose-based formula. The signs of this include a breakout of rashes on their baby, stomach aches, diarrhea, irritability after eating, and even colic. They often find that once they switch to a lactose-free product, the little ones no longer experience the symptoms mentioned.
It is usually recommended that you check with your doctor if you think that your baby is having any kind of reaction to the formula they’re getting. Once your doctor confirms that your baby is having an allergic reaction to lactose, you should immediately change to a non-lactose product.
Here are some examples of lactose free infant formula that may work beautifully for your baby:
Up & Up Lactose Sensitive Infant Formula, with Iron – this is a favorite for many parents whose babies have colic or just can’t seem to digest lactose-based formula. It is ideal for the first year of your baby’s life, and is also more affordable than some of the other more commercial brands. A 25.7 oz. tin of this powdered formula costs about $15.
Similac Sensitive Advance Infant Formula with Iron – Similac is a known brand of infant formula, mainly because it is high quality, but also because of the price! Nonetheless, if your baby is having a negative reaction to lactose based formula, this may be the best brand to go with. It is also perfect for babies 0-12 months old, and comes in powder form. A 12.6 oz. tin can run you about the same as a tin of Up & Up that’s twice the size!
Baby’s Only Organic Lactose Free Organic Toddler Formula – the word “organic” usually means more expensive, and that’s what you’ll find with this formula! However, you’ll also find a non-lactose, non-soy product that is perfect for colicky babies or those resistant to lactose-based formula. This is ideal for babies over 12 months old, and a 12.7 oz. can costs approximately $24.
You’ll find that in no time, your baby will be digesting formula much easier and enjoying feeding time like they should!
