How Much Should A 2 Month Old Eat?
How much should a 2 month old eat? I have tried breast-feeding with my newborn, but I have moved to exclusively using formula as I am now back at work (and feeling a little guilty about it). Can you tell me exactly how many ounces of formula I should be giving him and how often?
Many mothers find themselves in the exact same situation as you; they want to continue breast-feeding their babies, but find it quite difficult to keep up with a newborn’s demanding feeding schedule whenever they return to work. Some mothers will put their babies exclusively on formula, while others will try to breast-feed as often as possible and supplement with formula as needed.
There is no right or wrong way to do this, and whatever is working for your situation is perfectly acceptable. In the end, all that matters is that your baby is healthy and thriving, no matter which method(s) you use to feed him.
How Much Formula For A 2 Month Old?
There are a few things that you will need to take into consideration when deciding how much to feed your baby each day, including his weight, how often he should be fed and the likelihood of a growth spurt
When deciding how much formula your baby will need on a daily basis, the standard rule of thumb that most experts seem to agree on is to multiply 2.5 times the weight of your baby. So if we assume your baby is around 11 pounds, you will want to multiply this number by 2.5. This means that the daily intake of formula for your baby at this weight will be 27.5 ounces.
As a general rule you will want to feed your baby 5 to 7 times per day, using 4 to 5 ounces at a time. Again this is only an example for babies this age and your infant may be feeding more or less often. What matters is that he is getting right around the required amount each day. You do want to consider the fact that he still has a very immature digestive system at this point, so try to be very careful about overfeeding him during any one session.
It is also important to note that around two months, your baby could have a growth spurt. When this does happen, a baby will typically demand to be fed more often, and you will have to adjust accordingly.
