How many days do you ovulate for? I have been trying to get pregnant for a few months, with no luck. Is there only a one or two day window each month that you can get pregnant?

The chances of a woman getting pregnant are greatly increased whenever she knows exactly when she will be ovulating. There are a number of ways you can go about determining when you will be ovulating and two of the most popular ways are using a ovulation prediction kit or an ovulation calculator which can be found for free online.

However, in order to use these two methods, it is extremely important that you know how long your average menstrual cycle lasts. This is why it is strongly encouraged by many experts that a woman wishing to become pregnant tracks her menstrual cycles for several months before hand.

How Long Do You Ovulate?

Once an egg is released from the ovary, it will usually live no longer than 24 hours. Typically a general ovulation period will last between 24 to 48 hours. However, because sperm can live for several days inside a woman’s body, you can be fertile for a period of 5 to 7 days.

It is recommended by most experts that if you wish to become pregnant, that the most ideal time is a day or two before ovulation is to occur. Since sperm can live for up to five days inside of a woman, it is possible to have intercourse several days before ovulation happens, and still get pregnant.

You should also be aware that there is a myth out there that women ovulate 14 days after a menstrual cycle has begun. This is simply not true and you have to keep in mind that many women have various menstrual cycle lengths which can range between 24 days and some up to 40 days.

This is why you will need to chart your menstrual cycle for two or three months, which will greatly help you to determine when you are ovulating.
