Hosting A Baby Shower
Hosting a baby shower is something that should not be taken lightly, as the hostess will be assuming a great deal of responsibility on her shoulders. Keep in mind this is a joyful occasion and an affair that the expectant mother will remember fondly, if it is done well. This is why you must think carefully about your own time constraints and how involved you can get before assuming the duties of a shower hostess.
How To Throw A Baby Shower
Every baby shower is uniquely its own, but here are some essential tips that a good hostess should keep in mind when planning the affair:
1. First and foremost you will want to give yourself plenty of time to plan the baby shower, as there are dozen of big and small details you will need to attend to.
2. Deciding on a guest list should be high on your priority list. Without knowing how many people will be in attendance, it will make planning the menu, deciding on the location and other details virtually impossible.
3. Discuss with the expectant mother if she wants it to be a co-shower with her partner.
4. Discuss theme ideas with the expectant mother. If the sex of the baby is known, this will make picking out a shower theme much easier.
5. Pick out shower invitations and be sure to send them out at least 2 or 3 weeks in advance.
6. Decide if there will be any shower games. This will all depend on the wishes of the expectant mother and the guest list. If you have a list of conservative guests, playing games may not be appropriate.
7. Ensure that the expectant mother has created a baby shower registry and the guests are made aware of it.
8. Plan the menu. In most cases this is one of the biggest expenses of any baby shower and you don’t want to get too carried away here, unless you are throwing an extravagant event.
These are just the essential basics you will need to cover, as there are many dozen of other little details that will need to be taken care of as well. Always remember to keep the expectant mother in the loop, and allow her to make the big decisions, as it is in fact her shower.
Throwing a baby shower can be a lot of work and responsibility, but it is quite a rewarding experience to be a hostess, as long as things go smoothly!
