Enemas During Pregnancy
Can you tell me if using enemas during pregnancy is safe or not?
One of the most common problems that many women experience while they are pregnant is constipation. There are a number of methods you can use to try and alleviate constipation, but using an enema is not something I recommend.
However, you may want to consult with your doctor about this to see what he or she has to say. In most cases your doctor will tell you to try and use more natural methods to help with your constipation. This can include eating more fruits and vegetables and of course adding more fiber into your diet.
You also want to exercise regularly as well, as this helps to stimulate regular bowel movements. Inactivity is the key culprit for constipation. So even trying to move around for 10 or 15 minutes a day can really help to keep your digestive system working properly.
Keep in mind that some doctors may in fact recommend using a laxative.
Laxatives During Pregnancy
As mentioned above, your doctor is most likely going to try to point you in the direction of a healthy diet and exercise to help relieve your constipation. However, if none of this seems to be working he or she may recommend that you take a laxative.
It is important that you do not take any type of laxatives until you first consult with your doctor. Some laxatives are stronger than others and may cause complications for you and your baby. So take care to speak with your doctor first before choosing any laxative.
