Don’t Stress About Your Baby’s Milestones
Anyone who is a parent will tell you that they want nothing but the best for their children, and anyone who is expecting a baby wants their newborn to be born healthy and without complications. It is only natural to feel this way and no one wants to see their child suffer or have any developmental problems. This is why baby milestones are so important to many parents, and if you are not careful you can really stress yourself out about them and lose a lot of sleep if your baby is not meeting these milestones when you feel they should.
The first thing that you must understand is that baby milestones are just a guideline to help you gauge the development of your baby. However, no two babies ever develop exactly the same. In some cases you will find that perhaps your firstborn will roll over at four months, while your second baby does not develop the skill until much later or vice versa. This is perfectly normal and does not necessarily mean that the baby which develops the skills earlier, will be a more coordinated or athletic adult.
Other times you will find that a baby who seems to be a late bloomer, will rapidly develop her skills much faster as she grows older. As an example, a baby may not roll over until almost 6 months, but she may be able to walk by the time she is 11 months, while a baby who was able to roll over earlier, may not be able to walk until well after 12 months. There is simply no way to tell how quickly your baby is going to develop, and meeting these milestones earlier or later, really does not have as much significance as you would think about their future development. That is why it is important not to stress out so much about baby milestones and to just view them as simple guidelines and nothing more.
Of course if your baby is not developing her skills in what you feel is an appropriate time frame, then you should contact your physician and make him or her aware of your concerns. In some cases there may in fact be an underlying problem why your baby is not developing these necessary skills on time. Your physician will help to diagnose if there is a problem and what actions you will need to take to help correct it.
