Chest Pain During Pregnancy
Is chest pain during pregnancy normal?
This is one of those questions that can have a number of answers to it, as pregnancy chest pain can be related to any number of things. What is important is that you don’t ignore this pain and write it off as inconsequential. Some of the possible scenarios that could be causing your chest to hurt include:
- Indigestion – pregnant women are predisposed to being more gassy than usual, because their digestive systems slow down. This of course can lead to severe bloating which will naturally put pressure on your chest
- Growing baby – as your uterus expands it is pushed up into your rib cage, which may lead to pains in your chest
- Stress – while it is always advised that pregnant women keep their stress levels as low as possible, this is not always a plausible scenario
- Back pain – as your little bump turns into a much larger bump, this can put tremendous stress on your back, which of course can lead to chest pain
If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms with your chest pain, it could signify that there is in fact a problem:
- Dizziness
- Shortness of breath
- Fainting spells
- Spotting or bleeding
If you are suffering from any of these conditions and have prolonged pain in your chest, it is highly recommended that you call your doctor or midwife immediately.
