Can you recommend some fun activities for 2 year olds?

Once your baby turns two, this will present a new array of activities and games that the two of you can play. As we have always stressed in the past, when you are planning games to play with your two year old, you want to keep them simple and fun. Many babies get bored easily and will also become frustrated if the game is too complicated.

Activities For Two Year Olds

Which One Is Different? – this is a simple game that is very rewarding for babies, but it helps to reinforce the differences between shapes and objects. You can play this game by taking various objects and having your baby pick out the one that is different. As an example you can use fruits and pair up two apples with an orange and ask your baby to pick out the one that isn’t like the other. As your baby becomes more experienced with this game, you can start adding such things as shapes to make it more difficult.

Do You Remember? – Get a basket or bag and walk around your home with your baby and select various objects and place them in the basket/bag. After you are done collecting 8-10 items, ask your baby to take each item and return it to where it belongs. This helps improve both memory and recognitions skills. You can make this more difficult as your baby gets older by gathering common household objects yourself and see if your baby can remember where they go.

The Me Game – babies love to play this game as it puts all of the focus on them. You can ask your baby simple things like Where is your ear? Where is your nose? Where are your feet? You can also have them point out the same things on you as well.

Get Outside – take your baby into your backyard or to the park and let him enjoy the simple things in nature such as ants carrying a piece of food, squirrels gathering nuts or anything else you see going on around you. If it is autumn let him enjoy the texture and color of a fallen leaf. If it is the summer, show him the wonder of a blooming flower. Remember that many of these everyday things we take for granted are more beautiful than we realize, and are most appreciated by the innocence of a child.

This is just of course a sampling of things you can do with your two year old, but don’t be afraid to use your imagination and make up silly games just for the two of you. Far too many parents miss out on bonding with their children at this age because they are afraid to let themselves be free and worry what others may think if they are out in public.
